Cartoon: The Queen Cleans Up!
 


This cartoon by Paul Thomas from the Daily Express combines a survey carried out
among 2,000 women by Zoflora disinfectant which found that one in three women
like cleaning, and the aftermath of the Queen's diamond jubilee.
The Queen is shown outside Buckingham Palace. She is wearing an apron and
using a broom and dustpan to sweep up rubbish left over from the jubilee celebrations
(flags, bunting, empty cans, etc.). One of the guards says to the other, "Wow, that
woman's got some energy."
GRAMMAR
Some here does not mean 'a certain amount of'. Some can also be used to express
a positive or negative opinion about somebody/something, as here.
• That was some party!
• Some expert you are! You know even less than me.
